The following is an outline for using Awl-grip which is a multipart paint system and is intended to be applied by professionals. Technical information is available at

To paint your boat three main processes are
required: 1. Clean and degrease 2. Prime and sand 3. Topcoat
1. Clean and degrease We use 901 solvent to remove all wax, grease, and dirt from the surface. ( Mfgr. Grow Automotive Refinish (866) 598-6967 ). Scuff sand the old finish back to a good substrate, finishing with 320 grit sand paper.
2. Prime and sand We paint the boat with US Paint’s line of Marine grade paint called Awl-Grip Their high build primer is an epoxy 2-part system which is subsequently thinned. Awl-Quik Primer Base, Part number D 8003 Awl-Quik Converter, D 9001 Primer reducer, T 0006 Let cure overnight. Sand with 320grit sandpaper. Clean off all dust with a tack rag
3. Topcoat Best results are attained by using another primer (545) followed by the topcoat or “color coat” 545 White bonding primer, D 8001 545 Converter, D 3001 Primer reducer, T 0006
Topcoat base materials are available in many colors. Examples of three of our common boat colors with their part numbers are: Kingston gray, 715294 Empress Blue, 715305 Forest Green, 716017
