To paint your boat three main processes are required:

1. Clean and degrease

2. Prime and sand

3. Topcoat

1. Clean and degrease

We use 901 solvent to remove all wax, grease, and dirt from the surface. ( Mfgr. Grow Automotive Refinish  (866) 598-6967 ).

Scuff sand the old finish back to a good substrate, finishing with 320 grit sand paper.

2. Prime and sand

We paint the boat with US Paint’s line of Marine grade paint called Awl-Grip

Their high build primer is an epoxy 2-part system which is subsequently thinned.

            Awl-Quik Primer Base, Part number D 8003

            Awl-Quik Converter, D 9001

            Primer reducer, T 0006

Let cure overnight.

Sand with 320grit sandpaper.

Clean off all dust with a tack rag

3. Topcoat

Best results are attained by using another primer (545) followed by the topcoat or “color coat”

            545 White bonding primer, D 8001

            545 Converter, D 3001

            Primer reducer, T 0006
